A growing number of academic medical centers (e.g., University of Michigan, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Boston University Medical Center) are establishing policies that ban drug company representatives’ educational programs and free lunches. (See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/18/AR2007011801376.html for more background on this topic.) Similar policies are being adopted by smaller medical groups and individual physicians as well.
Is this something that you have had experience with? How do you feel about these policies and do you believe they will impact the way drugs are prescribed?
Do you have any other comments or feedback on the documentary modules? If so, please post a message. Thanks!

Pharmaceutical companies are programming the masses into believing a drug-induced life is "normal". Health (true health) is drug free! The Government is allowing the brainwashing of children and adults via mass media and it is dangerous. They took off tobacco ads and allowed drug companies to blatantly lie and deceive for amazing profits!! We are #73 in health as a country, but #1 in drugs and surgery... SOMETHING IS ROTTEN WITH THE DEALINGS OF THE DRUG INDUSTRY AND THE LAW MAKERS!!! Our Government is supposed to be of, by and for the people... turns out to be of, by and for the "legal" drug dealers instead of the people who deserve truth and health!!!
I would love to know how the term "science" got attached to pharmaceutical drugs. I have patients who are still given drugs that were recalled by the FDA. Oh, by the way, there are no "side effects". There are only effects... hmmm
Thanks for making resources available. I was doing some research for an article and just happened to stumble across the great peRX educational offerings.

Wow! I just finished viewing the last of your 4 modules. These are so well presented, balanced and educational. Where are these being used? Are Med Schools and residency programs requiring viewing these for CME? Who is actively promoting these?
I am a former drug rep that left big Pharma 14 years ago. I am appalled and incensed at how little has changed. I have so many insights I could share with you, but I am not certain this is the correct forum.
I have a MSPH in Health Policy and Administration and am looking for work related to this topic. Do you happen to know if anyone is currently compiling data on how/who/where health care professionals (MDs, RNs, Pharmacists, etc.,)are being educated regarding big pharma sales and marketing tactics? I believe that is essential to reform. If professionals in training programs perceive it as a negative to accept "bribes" from reps, eventually there will be a new breed of MDs and RNS, NPs, etc. Further, if states can start influencing Medical Boards (and other bodies...ie ACOG; American Academy Pediatrics, FPs, etc) to require CME training of this type prior to granting licenses, and to retain licenses, perhaps new perspectives will more quickly emerge. This is everybody's problem, yet it remains unknown to so many people. I feel a campaign to educate the public regarding pharmaceutical marketing needs to ramped up and a big part of health reform. If people were made that the often foolish TV and print advertising put out by the pharmaceutical companies, as well as the fact that MDs prescribe expensive new meds often when generics would work well, and that the cute cheerleader type they sat with in the waiting room is part of the reason they waited so long to see the doctor also contributes to their costs as patients, I think public pressure for reform would increase greatly.
